This modern 5,200-square-foot home in Clyde Hill is designed to take full advantage of a corner lot. The massing is carved back at the southwest to create a generous backyard, while two double-height spaces above the entry and kitchen bring daylight deep into the home through a series of strategically placed skylights.

The living room is positioned to receive both morning and afternoon sun, with large sliding doors that open fully to the east and west yards. Indoor–outdoor living is a constant throughout the house. Each bedroom has its own private deck, a covered deck in the northeast corner is oriented toward a mature sequoia, and a rooftop terrace offers expansive views of Lake Washington and the Olympic Mountains.

Along the east façade, tall windows frame the sky and the surrounding Douglas firs and ponderosa pines. The vertical rhythm of the exterior cladding echoes the trees on the site and in the neighborhood. On the street-facing side yard, darker materials and articulated volumes break down the scale of the house, allowing it to sit quietly on the corner despite its size.

A living room open to both sunrise and sunset.
